Re: Besslers prime mover and its enabler.

From my book PMAAMS? Wolff’s letter, re Merseburg wheel… “.. At the moment it can lift a weight of sixty pounds, but to achieve this the pulley had to be reduced more than four times, making the lifting quite slow. The diameter of the wheel is about twelve feet, and as well, the bearing was quite th...

Re: Besslers prime mover and its enabler.

Don’t patent it. Too expensive, takes too long. It won’t protect the device against any improvements. You would be chasing your tail for ever trying to prevent anyone anywhere in the world copying your design not to mention improving it. And If you publish the design and explain it, it’s then in the...

Re: Maschinen Tractate - electronic texts?

To Nick. “ John I do beg your pardon, it is indeed DT that I was looking for in German and Latin... I have your electronic copy of the whole thing, with English translation. But ideally I would like electronic copies of the German and Latin also... Are those available online?”. Yes but if you’ve got...

Re: Maschinen Tractate - electronic texts?

Hi Nick, unfortunately there is only one translation of Bessler’s German handwritten text and it’s very difficult to read. There is no Latin version and if you have my copy of MT you will see it has an English translation included. Perhaps you were thinking of Bessler’s other books? GB, AP or DT? JC

Re: How Difficult can it be?

The author was Christian Wolff and Mencke was simply publishing his letter. From my book, PMAAMS? “ Professor Wolff obliged, with an account of the proceedings on the 19th December 1715. This letter, one of many between Wolff and Leibniz, seems to have been ignored by the publishers because of its s...

Re: How Difficult can it be?

From my book, Wolff to Leibniz. “ When the machine was ready to rotate, all adjacent rooms were opened and the bearings were completely uncovered. To prevent anyone accidentally seeing the internal structure of the machine, he covered it. Whilst he did this, he did not disguise the fact that the mec...

Re: So easy a carpenters boy could build it once seen...?

Not really, the letter from Fischer von Erlach to Desaguliers was published and republished many times as was a similar letter from sGravesande to Newton on his own examination of the wheel. So it became widely known.

Re: So easy a carpenters boy could build it once seen...?

From my book, “ Fischer wrote to Desaguliers thus:, “……… His Highness, who possesses all the qualities that a great prince should have, has always had consideration for the inventor, and will not use the machine in any way for fear of the secret being discovered before the inventor had received a re...

Re: MTM5

I was very pleased to get your acknowledgement about my article on kiiking. As far as I know I introduced the sport to a very wide audience most of whom were unaware of it. I received several emails from Estonians and ex Estonians who remembered their families talking about it and didn’t know it was...

Re: MTM5

I confess that I tend to skim through your erudite posts Mr V, not through lack of interest but rather my own inability to understand most of it, but I did not know of the great flood of 1717, and I found that an interesting side topic, so thank you for that. I’m not sure I agree with your correlati...

I’m not aware of such a comment and I’m sure I would remember, but I’ll check my data banks, (cupboard) and if I find something relevant, I’ll post it here.

No I don’t, but he seems to have a number of images on his site, which all look a bit dodgy. I’ve not seen some of them anywhere else but perhaps he found them in some obscure publication from India.

Re: Youtube videos

Dr. Ramesh Menaria Is definitely one to avoid, he is heavily into Indian mysticism and has his Swami Vivekananda who apparently was a charismatic Indian spiritual leader, founder of the Ramakrishna Mission in Calcutta, and a primary interpreter of Vedantic thought (non-dualist Hinduism) to the West....
