.....on paper,is simple;all we need:

-a prime line
-an alternately moving point ("to and fro")
-a support,fulcrum

In reality, the "prime line" is a heavy bar and the point is a small mass, with a regular motion, at one end of bar, playing a continuous unbalance of the "assembly" (line+point), due to gravity and inertia.

And now, let's "skip" from the paper into the "real" physics (a circus performance ):

An idea is as a seed...but sometimes it grows better when transplanted into another mind...

.....you can play so easy ,at :

This simple game,is useful to understand the balance/unbalance of a longer stick ( spoke...).

.....or try to rotate continuously a stick,in a vertical geometric plane, with certain motions of your hand (fingers).

Consider in a particular way ,on paper, the trajectory of your mobile "fulcrum"/hand, fingers and imagine a "mechanical manner" to replace your "contribution" to rotate the stick.

.....as a lab-demo (remind the sweet time of school...) , at;

http://www.courses.umass.edu/plecprep/waves/3a1510.html

A physical pendulum has a lot of "freedom" to play ,if we compare with the common (mechanical clock ) pendulum.

Even more , the physical pendulum image can make the "connection" with the starting point of mechanics ,that is the lever.

The levers is a huge domain, and...the physical pendulums , also.

The best manner to learn a game is to play it on the ground...

.....can play as a physical pendulum (see the last message ) , but the same "object" can be used as a lever , at :

http://biology.kenyon.edu/courses/biol1 ... rframe.htm

If we play simultaneously lever and pendulum (with the same "stick"), we can talk about a pendular leverage.

Now , how about an oscillatory pendular leverage , as a simple image of a gravity powered device ?

A fulcrum and a "stick" with an end playing an alternating "extension-contraction" ( equivalent...) , so to maintain the gravity unbalance , on the same side of the fulcrum...

.....as a "baby idea" can generate a multitude of practical applications , including the mechanical ones.

Shaking a stick , has an easy to understand movie , at :
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6fslf98aw7E

...and a lot of early brevets ( see USPatent#1,915,816) , at :
http://www.rexresearch.com/constran/1constran.htm

For the purpose of our forum , the "baby" idea/image can be a self rotating stick ,due to gravity fall/unbalance and inertia.

A baby is a baby...project or object eliciting a person's special attention to grow/develop him.If you have it,take care to bring it to real world...alive.

.....if you want " to go higher ", you must increase the angular speed , introducing a " bending action " as you can see at :

…..you can play/test : www.geocities.ws/iacob_alex/Some_Drafts/text008.jpg
with two (or a single…) rising butt (door) hinge : https://www.dimensions.com/element/risi ... door-hinge
…..so to open a point of view (“door”…) regarding a possible gravity continuous unbalanced leverage…? !

The rising-butt-door-hinge reminds me of the toy page second central toy.
The only problem is a door turned upside down using this hinge will cause harm when it drops on you.

Bonjour Iacob Alex,

Hello Iacob Alex,
One of my concepts is based on a hinge-type helix as you present it, but which is ironically remarked, Agor it takes a retainer in stop so that the system remains in place and must be reversible type screw nuts with big pitch for a quick displacement.

Hello SHADOW

That was a little bit of dark humour on my part.

For those members who are looking at helix like paths.
There are two path symmetry one the right way up and the other upside down.

…..this time with an elastic ( “springy”…) one , as :
https://www.britannica.com/science/mech ... cillations
We can test a possible “self” rotating /accelerating elastic stick ( with rotating-sliding pivot )- crank ((with rotating pivot ) assembly , taking advantage of a visible double oscillatory“flow” inside gravity and centrifugal fields.
The same assembly ( stick-crank ) , playing an elastic relation with inertia/“pumping” rotational momentum…in a double synchro-counter rotating arrangement , can be tested as an “advantageous “ propulsion ?!
The symbol of our technology ( piston-connecting rod -crank ) involving energy and transport , can evolve in an “abbreviated “
“inertia oscillating rod”/stick-crank ?!
