re: How Difficult can it be?

At one time or another most of us here have been there...How to raise the fallen weight back to do work repeatedly without eradicating all the energy the "drop"provided.....What led me to my present design although not successful was the simple "pull"pre-loaded spring type roller blind..I removed the ratchet and hung a weight and length of cord which i attached to the roller...After much adjusting to the pre-loaded spring to raise and lower the weight, the result of which was a violent drop and return .....continued...

So to "control"the drop and return by slowing it down i used a a long powerful magnet as a weight and a one inch copper pipe (tube) the length of the "drop".So up and down it went inside the pipe yo-yo style until the spring weakened or lost its memory....nonetheless the idea of the roller revolving round the fixed pre-loaded spring was what brought me to the present design......

The song "Windmills of your mind"reminds me of Ezekiel and what the ancient scribes thought the wheels mentioned looked like....Ezekiel 1:16...its strange the manner in which we all think differently of what something looks like ....just a thought ..

Alan & Marilyn Bergman wrote:Round like a circle in a spiral, like a wheel within a wheel
Never ending or beginning on an ever-spinning reel
Like a snowball down a mountain, or a carnival balloon
Like a carousel that's turning running rings around the moon
Like a clock whose hands are sweeping past the minutes on its face
And the world is like an apple whirling silently in space
Like the circles that you find in the windmills of your mind

Like a tunnel that you follow to a tunnel of its own
Down a hollow to a cavern where the sun has never shone
Like a door that keeps revolving in a half-forgotten dream
Like the ripples from a pebble someone tosses in a stream
Like a clock whose hands are sweeping past the minutes on its face
And the world is like an apple whirling silently in space
Like the circles that you find in the windmills of your mind

Keys that jingle in your pocket, words that jangle in your head
Why did summer go so quickly?
Was it something that you said?
Lovers walk along a shore and leave their footprints in the sand
Was the sound of distant drumming Just the fingers of your hand?

Pictures hanging in a hallway and the fragment of a song
Half-remembered names and faces, but to whom do they belong?
When you knew that it was over were you suddenly aware
That the autumn leaves were turning to the colour of her hair!
Like a circle in a spiral, like a wheel within a wheel
Never ending or beginning on an ever-spinning reel
As the images unwind
Like the circles that you find in the windmills of your mind
For they eyes & ears: Oh man, never ending variants....

A beautiful song, but also reminds me a bit of Don Quixote: 400 Years of Chasing Windmills

So,moving on...how to "ground"our floating backplate (previous page)which must remain as static as possible to mount our mech. inside the revolving drum.....its easier to describe its action like that of an automatic winding watch.....the only difference being with the watch body revolving round the weighted rotor instead of vice versa.....hope this makes reading sense as this ballrace mounted backplate MUST remain as static as possible when attached to the working mechanism....there being no other possible method to "ground"....

First attempt to attach mech....did'nt work...although the counterbalance is heavier than the weighted rotor and is retracted when its limit of travel is reached to the centre by the spring allowing the weighted rotor to return the mech.to start again ....as can be seen it was.nt possible to" drive "because of its direction of travel....so it was back to square one to achieve motion... going in the right direction....

Agor, true. But why outsource?
All we need is some kind of instrument capable of outputting a never ending stream of beats. Something between 40 and 60 BPM is implied to be sufficient to power your local node of the web.
Should sound like music enough to the most of us. :-)

Rasselasss,
1. How is it connected to - and driving this drum?
2. Any shaped/compund weight hanging on an axle should have its center of gravity exactly below this axle;
3. What's the principle of operation?

Now there is an idea.

Use the telephone line base power to run the web server.
It runs on 2.5amp 1.5volts dc
