Does your password have to be changed every 90 days. I just had a pop up window that said i needed to do this when I logged out. I did it then the window said hacking attempt. So I logged back in and changed it again because something seemed fishy.

I'd been having problems like that, but it would only pop-up when I'd just logged in. I didn't like it either, so I exitted the window, and changed my password manually in my profile page. But the next time I logged in, it popped-up again. So I changed my password again, and it popped up again later. Finally I just changed my password within the window like it wanted, and it finally registered as having been changed. I then went to my profile, and changed it right back again (I liked it as it was :P), and it hasn't bugged me since (this was all rather recent).

As of yesterday, my password changes every time I try to access besslerwheel.com. My emails to Scott are returned as undeliverable. I've just tried accessing this web site three times, logging out each time and every time it requires me to go through the process of requesting a new password - it's driving me crazy!

I've had no such problems. Perhaps you have something onboard.

It sounds like some type of virus program fishing for passwords. Or is this some type of new Windows security feature that encourages changing passwords on a regular basis? The question is where does the popup originate from?

I never log out, so I never need to log back in since my computer remembers my password.

i think it's fishing for passwords,i think "scott" has addressed this problem before.
it hasn't happened to me for quite some time.....it once told me "my password expires in 362 days would you like to make a new one...?

i think it's a HACKER....its not me, i am still trying to use windows for dummies :)

A very good antivirus program called "Avast " is available and it's FREE !

I had Mcafee previouly and it missed about 15 virus and malware files . Avast found em and I was able to get rid of them.
I read in a computer mag that Avast is the BEST antivirus software available, it has database updates practically everyday so is always current. I run a scan whenever the computer is idle so I am hopefully keeping it nice and virus and spyware free.

Graham

I usually get it by having two windows open, and being logged in on them both (via right click - open in a new window). Then I sign out of one, close it, then I realise I have to sign out of the other also, thats when it happens - the pop up password change.

I just ignore it and close it, no big deal!

Why would it fish for passwords? The password would only be good for entering this site, who'd be trying so hard to impersonate one of us?

Hello,

My name is really Jonathan. I've taken over the identity of Gene. I plan on assimilating everyone on this board. Resistance is futile, earthlings. You can run but you cannot hide! arghhhh, matie!

Who knows. Maybe Scott has some idea. Netscape has a tab function and instead of opening up a new window you can open a new tab. This current window I'm using has 3 tabs that are different pages. I think netscape is more secure but I know it's more organized.

Gene

could also be 'collateral damage' from Scott fixing IP database and will slowly clean itself up as people put in new passwords. Has not happened to me yet. :)

If it was fishing for passwords, and I'm not saying it is Jonathan, it could be to look into private messages.

Oh Michael, so that's what you're up to! You bad man! You very very bad man!

My solution is to just not log out.

Graham...

That "Avast" program sounds good. I've been having unusually sluggish performance in my PC upon startup of late, yet my SpyBot Search N Destroy and outdated 2002 PC-cillin programs aren't finding anything amiss.

Can you supply a link where we can download Avast from?
