Hi Denker
Many thanks for letting us know about the new online books. I've been looking for an online version of AP for quite some time, so I almost wet myself when I saw such a good copy of it at GDZ! ;-) Now I can check my transcription of AP which I made from a poor quality scan of the British Library version of AP without having to travel 200 miles back to the library to see the original. A couple of things I've noticed so far with the GDZ version of AP is that it has a different title page to the British Library version, and there's also some handwriting just before the title page that mentions Mannsberg and a date of what looks like 1749.
All the best
Stewart
P.S. I see you've used the text from the second DT portrait as your signature - it's quite a good little proverb!

Baron von Mannsberg was Bessler's landlord when he lived at Karlshafen. He ordered Bessler to make one more wheel just before he fell to his death. Bessler complains in a letter to him that he does not have the materials to make another wheel, let along finish the windmill.
Mannsberg was a fellow of the Royal Society and had read Desagulier's comments about perpetual motion which he published some 20 years after he first gave a lecture on the subject in 1721. Mannsberg was also a junior member of George l's administration and usually resident in London.
I managed to get a researcher to follow up on the Mannsberg connection and found that a descendant of the family is still living in the same house and has a whole bunch of records pertaining to that era. Unfortunately they are in such a mess - misfiled, split up and generally disorganised that no attempt could be made to look for any further information - so frustrating! It might well be that some of Bessler's final possessions passed into this family but without a proper researcher reorganising the records we cannot hope to find out anything yet.

JC ;
I was under the impression by your writing that Karl had given Johannes the house at karlshaffen and permission to be buried there in his garden from Karl . how did wanker von mannsberg enter into this ??
it would seem improbable that after treating Johannes the way he did the wanker would have ended up with any of his possessions .
please explain . thank you .
Thank you Denker for the link .

Absolutely right doc. I should have put Fürstenberg not Karlshafen. The river Weser runs through Fürstenberg and on the slopes above, called the Solling, I think, was where Bessler built his windmill. That land was and still is owned by the Mannsberg family. I think Mannsberg saw Desagulier's publication, perhaps when attending the Royal Society's meetings, which mentioned the name Orffyreus and recognised the name as a being the guy who was building a windmill on his land.

re: New books available by GDZ
Thank you for the reply JC .
to me the whole mannsberg thing smacks of ill will . the mill was not located where it would have been effective . paydays to build it were very few and far between . sometimes 6 to 8 months before the next installment . payments were never up to date but grossly behind in $. Johannes was forced to use his own money to finance building .
now lets see , Johanns is destitute now , starving , no heat , and ordered to build a wheel ?
sounds like mannsville kind of manuvered him into this whole situation in an attempt to grab the wheel and make himself a hero to the royal society .
IMOO . what a wanker !!!

Fabulous link! Does anybody else get the impression that they scanned these books and put them on the 'net just so people like us would quit pestering them...? ;)

Dear Mr Tim,
For sure they have a good cookies manager and detected a big amount of search in relation with Bessler.
Dear all,
The text (in old german) of the Bessler testimony on his PM engine:
http://de.wikisource.org/wiki/Neue_Nach ... ui_mobilis
Note: I'm back again in Abidjan (Ivory Coast) for my job, and therefore obliged to suspend my various experiments based on the 'hamster design'.
During my free moments I take the opportunity to make some complementary studies.

I cannot imagine why nobody though on this before, including myself? It is so simple!...
