...what can impart "free" motion) has some common points :

-lever family(first class)
-counterweight on a constant arm
-working weight on a variable arm

Besides...some differences:

-throw out mass vs. "throw in" mass (small arm into long arm)
-acting vs. self-acting
By the way,the trebuchet is a machine with an "official status",while the intended gravity motor has a theoretically "forbidden status"...as of now.

All the best! / Alex

....is simply,to change the shape of a war machine into a "civilian" one (gravity free power device).

Here,we must add some modifications:
-the string and the pouch , into a hanging part of the "launching"/variable arm
-the horizontal runway to ride on , into an inclined plane one (the shapes of an inclined plane can be so diverse...).

If we remind that the mechanics has two basic simple machines (lever and inclined plane),to develop the next ones (this time a self-rotating gravity machine)...then,it's normal to use them.

Knowledge is knowing that we cannot know yet...

All the best! / Alex

The missile speed of the trebuchets are constantly increasing. There is a line to be crossed and it will hopefully be this season.

.....can be considered as a small "transfiguration"/change for "better" the form of a counterweight trebuchet into a counterweight-variable arm pendulum.

.....is a kind of spring up (hurling stones,as with a war machine) vs. an another one(extending small the arm into the long arm , as a "self"motion...the single real conundrum of a PM device).

With a pair of fresh eyes : it's nothing ,but a judicious imitation.

All the best! / Alex
