Ralph, your firm grasp of the obvious, is a notable one. However I take issue with your obviously prejudiced notion that my 'bible thumping' as you call it, has nothing to do with Hassan's simple and general question. Anyone with internet access and self respect can see that New Orleans, nay, even America is not fine......and getting less 'fine' by the day. And mocking one's religious beliefs, though an irresistible temptation for those of a certain mindset, helps no one and only serves to highlight one's ignorance.
| Quote: | Do they ever learn, not as long as our gracious US Army Corps Of Engineers is around to spend tax payers money to rebuild the dikes and make them higher still. I believe any one living under such conditions should reconsider their options or get what will be. God or no God we still can make a decision with or without following the flock.
Not everyone is going to stick their finger in the dike as the little Dutch boy of old did. |
Frankly, I don't see any greater benefit to your trite, after the fact colloquial observationalism than my observation that God's hand is at work here.
I would add that the advocation of prayer to God almighty for the people of New Orleans may not be mocked without recompense.....as some may discover.
The power of prayer has been proven in various controlled tests around the world and is certainly a viable method by which to effect positive change in the area.
Many reports of miracles abounded in the wake of the Sri Lanka Tsunami....and such is occurring and will occur in relation to the New Orleans disaster.
I for one, will pray that those near the affected area will not leave the work solely to certified agencies....and begin opening their homes to their brothers and sisters, and make direct contribution as much as possible...considering what passes for 'charitable organizations' in our broken world today.
God bless,
TS

For those that think this is off topic, I'm sorry. I don't think it is, because it is the continuation of the offense against Techstuff's evil explaination of the disaster. Note that he did not include the following as one of the two thing he agreed with me about:
>I find it hard to believe that of the 250-300 thousand folks there, there was not one good person.<
Techstuff, I get the impression you didn't catch the lack of captilization in that second quote of me you posted. I think Bill got it.
>and hope you'll fogive my shaking that pedestal of yours.<
I thought you said God did that? Now I'd be the first to say Freud was nuts, but that was a Freudian-slip if there ever was one.
PS Bill, I disagree that it is compulsive lying, that would imply mild insanity or irresistable external force. He chooses to lie and loves it.

Techstuf,
I do believe that you missed my point also.
First, I do believe in God. I feel I owe him credit for the fact that I am living now, after being diagnosed with terminal heart problems. I have alway said that he lets me live as there is something he want me to acomplish, before calling me to his alleged greener pastures.
My term "Bible Thumpers" applies to those such as yourself that find an excuse in all topics to force your beliefs on others. Yes I pray for those in need and belong to more than one prayer chain. This is all well and good, but I do not attempt to change Alden Parks religious beliefs from his Mormon religion to a Baptist by saying, that is why he cannot find the Orffy Bearing.
Yes, God and his roll with nature which is part of the earths make up by his hand produced Katrina. But he also gave man the sense to reason. More people accept the fact that he who lives in a house of glass should not throw rocks, than those that live under a river should learn how to swim or move to higher ground.
to my knowledge the Mississippi River has been diked and levied as far North as the mouth of the Ohio. Each year it silts in raising the level. Man in his blindness raises the levys and uses up resources to pump the rain water up into the river. Is this our Gods intent, I do not think so. To keep the productive farm land and citys did not God give man the powers to reason that it would be more productive and less loss of resources to dredge the river and return the silt to the producing lands that we sow our seed.
Would it not be better to grab a shovel and start digging than to argue over God and his attributes. Does man realize that the expression "more brains than God gave a goose" have any implication to ones sensibility to choose the right prioritys.

Just to put some of this into perspective.
Currently, there are about 100,000 of the "Katrina evacuees" living in Red Cross Shelter across the states surrounding Louisiana. They are not being charge one red cent for the food and other services that they are being provided with...
