I would like to share an experience with you about drinking & driving.

As you well know, some of us have been known to have had brushes with the authorities on our way home from the odd social session over the years.

Well, a couple of nights ago I was out for a few drinks with some mates, and had a few too many beers as well as several cocktails and some rather nice red; but knowing full well I may have been slightly over the limit, I did something I've never done before - I took a bus home.

I arrived back safely and without incident which was a real surprise, since I had never driven a bus before and am not sure where I got this one!!!

My best drinking and driving experience; A long time school mate and Navy buddy closed up a tavern called the Blind Pig (we jokingly called it the sightless boar) located in the Mission district of San Francisco. This was in the early 1960's and I had just turned 21, California's drinking age.

I lived in Burlingame at the time so we took the Eisenhower freeway Southbound. Buddy was half past out in the back seat. Pretty soon I hollered at him, telling him that I could not find any yellow or fog lines. He said pull over to the shoulder and park it, your drunk.

Being totally lost and definitely over inebriated, I heeded his advice stopped the car and passed out.

About 6:00 Am we were both awakened by an awesome roar and the car was vibrating. I raised up just in time to see a Boeing 707 picking up its landing gear a it cleared the roof of my car.

Seconds later we were greeted by a gaggle of security police, sirens screaming in flagged vehicles and escorted off the tarmac.

To this day we have never figured out how i got off of the Southbound freeway traveling in the West lanes and into SFO restricted area which is on the East side of the freeway. My apartment located in Burlingame was on El Camino Real.

No charges were filed as Airport Security was at a loss as to how I got there in the first place, and were to embarrassed to admit their security was not as tight as claimed to believe.
