I like the Da Vinci Shadow. What interest me is the half circle is almost the brachistochrone curve.

A propos des roulements, modèle utilisé en meunerie.
Et ce qu'il aurait put mettre au point.

About bearings, model used in milling.
And what he could have worked out.

Variant of the MT46
It remains to define the drive gear of the screw to return angle, a rotation of screw for an angular displacement of the wheel (5°if sufficient output and input deviations).
Idea for fun because there must be a lot of friction losses in the chute!

Le système existe déjà, à voir par le calcul si la roue fournie assez de couple pour faire fonctionner l'ensemble.

The system already exists, to see by the calculation if the wheel provided enough torque to operate the set.

All clever marble lifters are powered with something like a motor or wound up springs or clockwork hanging weights etc. but no self powered lifters in physics (for same heights).

Bonjour JB,

Vous voulez dire que la roue alimentée en billes sur la moitié de la périphérie n'aura pas assez de couple pour monter les billes sur la vis d'Archimède?

Hi JB,
You mean the ball-fed wheel on half the periphery won’t have enough torque to mount the balls on the Archimedes screw?

Helix Spiral

Hi All

I have always wondered; Would the exit speed be different for a ball from a ramp or a spiral ramp?
I imagined the ball being either of hard rubble or a ball bearing that is rubber coated.

If this where true then any extra exit speed could be used to life the wheel weights by the ball's impact speed.
Then the ball becomes another weight to lift.

P.S. Weight in this context is dead weight and mass has dynamic momentum.

Regards

Shadow mechanical advantage is a trade off of an input to get an advantaged output , the tradeoff could be losing more distance at the input for less distance at the output to get an advantage of less force at the input and more force at the output , or the tradeoff could be to use more force at the input for a shorter distance and the advantage being more distance at the output but at less force.

Whatever the advantage or disadvantage of the design is - it is a tradeoff which effects input and output in such a way that one loses an advantage so that the other can gain an advantage , a ratio of good : bad .

Point is there would be some form of tradeoff relationship for input vs output ratioed mechanical advantage , plus energy loss , that is why no input to output ratio of mechanical advantage (except 1:1 in to out) is sufficient for re-stocking/re-supplying/re-energizing/re-feeding/re-setting the input again .
Its all relative.

The buyer buys but never gets his full money worth , everything is achieved with a certain amount of loss , and so people want either more money or more for less money ,and so the world is governed by greed and this is the root of all evil , a trade-off eg. more for less .

Thanks JB, I never thought of those parts of B's riddle in that context before, but it make perfect sense :)

I like the design Shadow but gearing will king maker this is somewhat like MT49. Also you are going to need a ballast / pendulum/ artificial horizon; what is going to hold it there?

I will say you see Bessler avoid leverage or get it back to neutral. But if Shadow's spiral is held by something else taking the weight then what does it take to spin it and lift? You can't just say there is leverage and therefore I give up without looking at what is happening.

This is the opposite what I was trying to achieve where here you are trying to slowly lift the whole column. Where I was working on fast lifting and slow descent.
