Scott,

I believe that you are trying hard to reduce the personal flaming and insults now going on. I say three strikes and your out!

I think you should start a new poll reducing the three red dots before barring some one who insists on being totaly derogatory in the posts. They are of no constructive nature.

I also think that if you were to publicly post all financial contributors by name it may help entice some to contrubute to the cause.

I think you do a fine job, Scott. I do not envy your position sometimes...I know I would not go through the trouble myself.

I see varying interests for solving this mystery and many of them have a competive resource/reason for the solution....(read money)....and I believe that contributes to the animosity of some. Not to mention egos.

I know where I stand in the scope of this...a student for the most part. I make pretty good money, so that isn't what drives me. I do not go to any other type of discussion board or blog...just the ones related to this obsession. I have ideas...no solutions. I have more mistakes than accomplishments. I have contributed more to the art of "boat anchors"...you know, everything is solidly planted at the bottom...than I have to anything remotely perpetual. I just can't give up...not yet!

As long as ovvyus is doing such a good job of "watchdoging" the forum, and is always sharp to pick up on possible scammers and whily fisherman. I see no need for a fraud forum. It is not recieving the traffic it use to get.

I see no reason why it could not be deleted.

Ralph, I'd just like to say that I think the Fraud Forum sends the right message to any would be scammers out there thinking about paying us a little visit. Deleting the Fraud Forum would be, IMO, a mistake. I think the fact that it is showing no activity is a good sign :)

On the matter of the rep system: I think it works well in terms of it's original purpose - to provide a mechanism for members to deal with scammers on the forum. But as far as dealing with antisocial behaviour and problem members who wish to cause damage - for whatever reason - it is clearly inadequate.

As a matter of interest, I'm a member of a private forum (unrelated to energy or wheels) that does a great job of sorting out it's problem members: Behaviour is moderated by the administrators through application of posting bans, which can last from 3 days up to a whopping 3 months... with total banning reserved for those rare extreme case members who just can't manage the basics. It's a very effective approach and it works.

Ralph, I hear you about the 3 strikes, wish it could be that easy. As for posting contributors names, interesting idea. I'll have to think about it. I'm a little m wary of anything that might resemble commercialization, though.

Steve, I too have designed and built a lot of complicated "boat anchors" over the years. :-)

And Bill, you raise an interesting point. Maybe banning doesn't have to be a permanent thing. I have to wonder though, is it really effective? I can imagine someone like Robert or Gene coming back from a temporary banning madder and meaner than ever.

Thanks again to all of you for your feedback. I think I'm going to like having a blog for just getting things off my chest. :-)

Simple, apply Ralph's "3 strikes and you're out" rule:

Strike 1) 3 day posting ban
Strike 2) 14 day posting ban
Strike 3) banned

All decisions made at the sole discretion of admin - no excuses owed - moderated in conjunction with the present rep system.

IMO, democracy requires moderation.

Yes, that is basically the purpose that the new blogs serve. Each blogger has total control over the content, who can view, and who can post in their blog.

Many sites attract undesirables, but I've been surprised at the higher quality of the membership here. Everyone doesn't see eye-to-eye, but most get along. Thank you for hosting and putting up with all of us.

The last time I checked, your PayPal link required setting up a PayPal account--which I have no use for. However, it now accepts credit cards. I would like to pay for some of the bandwidth I've used, and chip in towards your server upgrade/replacement. The money is already on its way.

Next thing: what if 10% of the members (35) are having their own blog? It think it will be very hard to track each new idea, and can become rather complex.

Hi Hopeful, you know what? You are absolutely right. As the admin I guess I have to focus more on the trouble makers, which can sometimes give me a skewed perspective. Thanks for straightening me out. And as for your donation, double thanks. It is greatly appreciated.

Hi Marchello, I hope we have that problem! But I doubt it. So far the two users for whom I basically did all the work have chosen not to use it. That is fine. The two users who have decided to use it were a pleasant surprise.

But even if 10% of the members do one day have their own blog, I still think more information and communication on this subject is always better than less. No one will be forced to read them all, including me.

That is another nice thing. By controlling the group of Bloggers, I can delegate the responsibility of moderating the blogs to a group of individuals I can trust and respect.

Trust me, if Gene had wanted to join the Bloggers group... no way.

As far as the flamers are concerned it seems to me that those who engage in verbal warfare have an underlying hostile and aggressive side to their nature and welcome a chance to get into a slanging match . It makes them feel important and powerful. They thrive at being able to insult and belittle others, whilst hiding behind the anonimity that a website affords them.

Your recent actions were justified and BW.COM is a happier place as a result.

I was also thinking along the same lines as Bill on this one. Why not just institue a progressively restrictive posting ban until they are kicked for touch or reform their behaviour ?

It seems to me that it's all a cry for attention & by banning them, even temporarily, it will dampen their ego & perhaps the prospect of no future audiance is enough for them to moderate their own behaviour. They'll always want an ear to bend & to get banned would be like packing up all the toys day after Christmas.

Take away their fix.

P.S. Is there a spell check here ?

And yes to a calm interchange of perspectives on this puzzle like 20 sets of eyes are better than one ...!!
it looks like we all come from very diverse backgrounds , and I believe working collectively would be the best chance, and I emphasize" chance " of solving this riddle.

As far as personal behavior of other members, I see no benefit in personal attacks, slights or jabs, but it is a public forum, and a cross-section of society some people are just mean irritable or contentious and vain.
I see a core group of people numbering in the 20s, that really can bring something to the collective table, of ideas and theories what we've learned and can teach each other instead of all of us having a learned on are own, I think when people are downright nasty policing the situation is the duty of the administrator ....... or anyone that volunteers but the bottom line........ the the buck stops at Scott.

You never know when one of us will see something just a bit different,...... and that two cents just might be helpful, and lead to new clues or insights.
I think the diversity of our backgrounds should be used as a collective strength, and not be a distraction, I think most of you are fine gentleman, and if we ever solve this we should all get together and have a favorite beverage .....!
some peoples egos are not like'in to defeat.... and nobody's hit a home run yet...!
Keep in mind the frustration levels batting average is 1000.....!
frustration affects people differently , some just lose it, some lash out,.... I agree with everything I've read in this blog, but Scott i am glad it's your job and not mine.

What I find upsetting is when trying to explain the principle behavior behind a design, that some members of this forum have no patience to allow the design to be presented.
I can show in posts where they have no interest. Only why I am not humbling myself to them.
I am a grown man. I have no need to play that game. If they are not mature enough to consider the work on it's merit, then that is nothing for me to be concerned with.
As things are, I am building. And yes, I have every reason to bellieve this will work. Why else would I spend my time and hunndreds of dollars (probably a couple of thousand in reality) pursuing this ?

Something to consider, in overunity.com Alan would often post that he is a private builder and can not divulge information which might be helpful in understanding Bessler's wheel.
He is also a respected member of rlortie's private build group.
In OU.com, they are looking for an ou or ppm device which can be privatized for profit.
It is in the build group's best interest to discredit any idea they can not take crdit for as being credited with such a discovery might be worth something.

All I can say is, it would be nice if someone in your forum actually understood engineering. If
they did, then they would know this design has
a great deal of potential.
Still, I could just post like other people do
