: David, I wasn't quoting hearsay. Properly organised tests were carried out and documentation issued, not just by the chief examiner but also others who attended the tests.

The 54 day test was set up in a locked and secured room, I know that you have suggested that the stampers could have been allowed to continue to be operated, but why? What proof could that achieve that the wheel on its own could not? Surely the fact that the heavy wheel could turn for that long was sufficient? Bessler had requested a longer test but Karl was not prepared to do so. He made the point that if such a long test did not convince anyone of the reality of Bessler's claim then no amount of time would do so.

As for revealing his secret at any time in his life to gain fame and recognition, that wasn't what he wanted. He wanted sufficient funds to set up a religion-based school teaching the poor the arts that he had taught himself -such as mechanics, hydraulics and the building of various machines such as windmills, organs, and how to carry out surveying and making armoury and building clocks and watches etc. Besides it is extremely doubtfull if he would have received due credit if he had revealed his secret, particularly in those days.

John,

: I can appreciate your point of view, but it is way to easy to read into heresay. There have been many machines I've devised and built, and upon reflecting upon them I could easily subscribe some of Bessler' clues towards them, but each of these machines were different (and of course didn't work). Am I making sense? About this you wrote,

: >It would have been extremely difficult to arrange for 54 days work under load, locked up under seal and guard but he tried to comply with every other possible request. You may suggest that it could have pumped water but the machine was set up in a room in the castle for security and so, in my opinion, arranging a constant load would have been very difficult.

: Why John? I don't see how. Hey come on, if it was a real machine it would need to perform in this area anyway. Why not set up a stamping system like his short demonstrations?

: >The "fame" as you put it actually secured him enemies who did not believe that he could possibly have built a gravity wheel -

: That's not what I meant. I meant the fame and recognition, and security he would get by revealing the workings, at any period in his life. His proof. Your statement actually vindicates what I am saying. Why would he put himself through all of that?
