Not wishing to offend the sensibilities of Bessler believers out there but to use another example, Kohn Worrel Keeley managed to con millions from true believers when he showed off his machines. He evern had a fair number of scientists believing him ( as well as a fair number who didn't) His machines spun, and were able to lift weights, for long periods of time. When he died it was found he had a hidden air compressed chamber in his basement with tubes of a very small diameter, so small he had people who inspected the attachtments of them to the machine believing they were wires, running up the floors into his machines.
