: Closer examination of the photos on your webpage indicate that the axle of your wheel is a length of wooden rod. The stand upon which the axle turns (journals) also appears wooden. Is this correct? There does not seem to be much apparent wearing of the wooden axle as might be expected from such a bearing/bush arrangement supporting a reasonable weight (6 x 4 oz. lead balls + springs and housing, etc). Does this indicate the wheel has not seen much use and has turned only a few rotations?

Speaking out of turn here, but... just a note (ironically enough) defending a wheel that I kind of doubt is OU...

If the bearings are *in* the wheel itself and the wooden rod does not rotate then there wouldn't be any wear on the wooden rod.

As for my first statement, about not believing it's OU... I am only saying that based on the fact that this is actually one more variation of an old design that didn't work. I haven't done the math or built a duplicate so I can't say *for sure* it doesn't work, but there's something odd about the whole thing... I keep expecting VITW to pop up and say "no, you're right, it doesn't work, but I sure did get you all to hear my message." Not like that's a bad thing but the whole thing just sounds a little bit strange.

Darren
