Hi Bill,

This is true, but the only reason I'm using square weights is because in my design it doesn't matter what shape they are. They could be cylindrical, but they aren't. I attach them using a hole bored through the middle of a small chunk of mild steel and then put a bolt through.

I have always leaned to the opinion that the weights could be anyshape and JB was just disguising the way they were attached to make a mystery out of something quite ordinary. This is because I have come to the conclusion that even if you could see how they were attached and even where the wear marks were, it still wouldn't provide you with the faintest idea about how it all worked, but JB might have thought that by disguising the weights in handkerchiefs it might give the impression that it might (give some clue) thus directing attention to the weights and away from the mechanism. Or it was just keeping their hands clean.

: Hi John,

: Square weights??? A cylinder with a length equal to its own diameter is square from a certain perspective :)

: : Are you asking me? If so I'm working on a mechanism which is fitted to a wheel. If you mean are my weights D-shaped then no, they are square.

: : : Your device is shaped as a D and not a wheel, right?
