Hello Mr. Tim,

Unfortunately the witnesses did not specify the exact ocation of the sound. The sound was reported as coming from the side towards which the wheel turned. This is frustratingly vague, and because we assume that they mean the wheel rolls in a particular direction, the sound therefore comes from the falling side of the wheel. I cannot therefore give you any indication of the height of the sound relative the the axle height. The wheel was reportedly very loud in operation and one witness (recounted in the forthcoming edition) described the wheel as having a loud clatter and rattle which made it difficult to identify its actual motive principle. Of course this could have been artificially introduced by Bessler to deliberately mystify his spectators and obscure the specific area from which the sound came.

With regard to the pendulums, I am still unaware of any witness reports that they were ever present in any of the exhibited wheels. I am sure then that they were either as part of the mystification process, or there in the drawings to add sssomething at least to what was a rather dull ilustration.

: Hi!
: I was able to borrow a copy of your great book for about 3 weeks. It answered quite a few questions. (Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I don't have to put those damn pendulums on each side of the wheel!)
: Now, my question is: On the sound made on the descending side of the wheel; Did the witnesses describe it as being above the horizon of the axis? level with it? or below the horizon?
: I
: I (above)
: ---O--- (horizon)
: I (below)
: I
: Any insight you have on this would be greatly appreciated. (It hasn't been easy reverse-engineering Bessler's wheel, but I believe all the clues are in your book. Finding them is the difficult part.)
: Again, thanx for your help.
: Mr. Tim
