You should build the device to prove to yourself that it works. Thoghts and actions are two separate things. You may find out that once you start building it, there will be some details you never thought about. Once you buid it and if it works you will find out the incredible surprice that no one cares, and that you could not give it away and also to find investor to finance your invention is more dificult than hitchhicking from new york to los angeles. If you are afraid of being killed, you can release the information to the public via the internet and once it becomes public domain no one can touch you, why would they? There is no money to made, and money my friend is the reason they would kill you for.
Take heart and courage to persue your dreams.
