:commoditize energy, eradicate poverty, and enable a sustainable human impact on the planet

What do you mean by this? Isn't energy already a commodity? And how could this possibly eradicate poverty? And haven't we already made a substantial human impact on the planet? Also, I can see how it might replace some power generation, heating and cooling, but not cars or planes, nothing that needed serious compact horsepower. It would seem to me, at first glance, that it would only have limited and specific uses. Seriously, do you really think it would change the world?

:All the textbooks would have to revised.

That's funny. I hadn't thought of that. Crikies, the physics text book editors would really be pissed off :-)

: though most mathematicians agreed that PM was impossible, it was still debated by respectable scientists. At the time, PM was not so revolutionary, it was just one of many possibilities.

If they still thought it was possible, and it is such a high impact discovery, why wasn't it pursued to a greater extent?

: The economy was driven almost exclusively by the hard physical labor of humans and animals.

So you're saying that today, with economy driven more by electronics and machines (and therefore electricity) that this discovery would have a more dramatic impact on our society than it would have on theirs?

:Some suggested that the machine was inspired by the devil, since it would put nearly everyone out of work.

What do you think about this? How do you think society would react to "free energy." Would this make the world lazier than they are already getting, and if so would the benefit be worth the penalty?

: I think the smartest thing to do would be to go to the Patent Office.

Are you sure? There are those would would have you believe the gov't and it's agencies would send covert units to your house in black helicopters to remove all traces of you and your family if you were ever to go public with something like this. I'm not sure why, but there seems to be some paranoia linked to this particular idea.

:You could get a US patent with all the protection it affords.

I learned in a business law class once, taught by a copyright/patent lawyer, that in legal patent disputes the company with the most money usually wins. Party A (little guy) patents an invention, party B (Admiral Electric) blatently steals it, Party A sues, Party B uses vast monetary resources to stall or even kill the court decision, party A runs out of money in court, all the while party B continues to profit from the sales of these stolen ideas. Apparently happens all the time.

:While the patent is in place, a company could be formed and funded, by the inventor, to produce and distribute Bessler Wheels all over the world.

The machine was reported to be loud. The world would certainly be a noisier place :-)
