This is sort of what I had in mind. The problem with the picture is that the mounting prevents precession, so the gyros will be in the 12:00 or 6:00 position(depending on rotation). They could still "stand" a weight off to one side in these positions. I wandered around looking at devices in existence for the drive and the closest thing I saw was fishing reels. However the highest ratio was only about 6:1. So either I would need a very large rotor or additional gearing. I don't know if the mechs of the reels would handle a large rotor unless very well balanced. Does "forcing" a gyro diminish the duration of given spin? If not then it has defied gravity.
