Of course! Magnetism is one of the first places to look for a possibly unknown effect. To this day it is one of the most mysterious natural forces known to man... next to gravity, of course ;-)
It is interesting to note that after Bessler died, 2 powerful magnets, called 'lodestones' at the time, were found in his estate.
