Bessler's primary concern was protecting his secret. He did not necessarily care if people believed him or not. Well, he did, but that was not his primary concern. His primary concern was keeping control of his secret. He burned his wheel and anything else that might reveal the secret precisely because he thought that someone might gain access to them and thus learn the secret. We can see the same sort if psychology today amoung many of the free-energy investigators who think they have discovered something important.
