You say that swinging causes the spring to compress. This could be a result of gravity. Spring compression could also be a result of centrifugal force. Perhaps both gravity and centrifugal force compress the spring. I think that this centrifugal force may be a source of extra energy. When the centrifugal force combines with gravity to compress the spring, energy is stored in the spring. Can this energy be released later in a way that will increse the motion of the wheel?
