I only know of the cartoon by Borlach which showed in his opinion how the wheel was operated - by a rocking beam and cord. He did see the Merseberg wheel, so logically his drawing should look something like the real one. However I do have some free-hand sketches of JB's wheel, but they are very plain and uninformative and really not worth bothering with. There may be some out there that will turn up eventually on my computer, but nothing at present. I can put a copy of the Borlach cartoon up on my web site if anyone is interested?
