Hi grim,

I see what you're suggesting and it could be that Bessler 'forced' the figure perspective to include this detail, but I tend not to think so.

The reason I doubt this is because I can find no other indication of him using this technique in his drawings. His drawing style is generally very simple and 'realistic'.

Of course, it could also be that A & B are not different elevations of the same thing afterall, although the way the black dots (a black dot with a white centre is typical of Bessler's depiction of a rotation or pivot point) align certainly suggests this to be the case.

IMO, A & B depicts either a device contrived by Bessler to somehow amalgamate the properties of E, C & D, or it is a common device or component known about at the time.

: : Hi grim,

: : Yes, 'B' does look like it might fold flat with alternating hinges, if that's what they are. But then 'A' doesn't seem to make much sense with the pivot points positioned as shown???

: If you drew "A" as a front view, as was suggested, the only way to depict the alternating-side hinges for clarity would be to draw it also as a side view, "B", I believe.
: The black dots, or suspected "hinges", line up perfectly between the two pics.
