: The old saying....."garbage in, garbage out" referring to software is still quite true. I suggest perusing through the source code.....particularly the gravity engine in the program....I have noted some time ago that some very expensive programs cannot even simulate a free swinging pendulum reliably. My suggestion, (not being at all familiar with this particular incarnation of "real" simulation software) is to hang a small pendulum and duplicate it as accurately as possible on the program, making sure that the dimensions are commensurate with one another, the bearing friction is as close as possible, if one is used, or use a cord to hang your weight from if allowed in the program and eyeball the results......the results of this of course, in no way should be relied upon for the much more complicated situations to be rendered by a more complex design.....such as storing gravitational energy in flexible structures. The above is suggested simply to make a simple point regarding "real life" simulation software in at it's present state as released to the public at large, and should not be taken as a blanket statement regarding the accuracy of all such programs.

: In my long, grueling, and fruitful experience, I can tell you that:

: Hand's on beats a hand out, hands down and I have learned long ago that a hand extended out towards the "intellectual braintrusts" of our age......will get slapped every time, concerning things such as this. In the word's of one such braintrust:

: "there are known knowns, known unknowns, and unknown unknowns, it is the unknown unknowns that we have to worry about"

: I can tell you that there are many unknown unknowns that cannot be included in the "mushware" being peddled these days.

You are quite wise.
