A high speed camera would fill the bill. Dents in the lead weights told of large forces encountered during the mass shifts. It accelerated from a standing start, so there must be some extra energy there someplace. Came up to a fast speed pretty quick. Subtracting friction of air losses, bearing frictions, and the heat loss in the springs, I often wondered if it would reach a set speed and then slow down, or would the wheel continue to roll as long as the weight upshift off the bottom perimeter kept it topheavy,
a sort of governing action.
Personally got tired of putting it back together!
