I know it's corny, but I used K'nex. Of course, since they are made of plastic I used some on-hand magnets as weights. BTW, I'm quite sure that the magnets had no effect one way or another through their magnetism, they don't have great range and the beam was good sized. Of course this doens't prove the idea can't work, just that I havn't gotten it to. I've spent seveval hours straight wroking with the ideas, made 10 or 15 models, and am convinced enough to give up. But I want to stress that I don't claim these experiments to be conclusive either way. I suggest you all out there make your own, maybe you'll see something I missed. I'll put more thought into it though, I won't give up the idea until I can prove for sure that the working principle is flawed. It occurs to me now that I never tried more than one beam (two arms, two separate weight assemblies)...

: Uh...you have? That fast? How did you do this?

: : I've made several versions of the lever arm idea from MrTim and have not gotten an overbalancing effect. I am puzzled by this as the weights do move in and out as he said and I don't see why it doesn't work. I'll do more experiments and tell you all if it works or if I figure out why it doesn't.
