I'm not sure Pete. I know one of his daughters married the court blacksmith much later, but that was many years after 1711. I have a photo of a hydrometer in a beautiful carved wooden case which is ascribed to JB and it contains some pieces of wrought iron but I have no date for that so I cannot say for sure whether it was before 1711. I can say that there is no record of him working as a blacksmith BUT I can say that he IS recorded as having the skills of a blacksmith - so if I read the reason behind your question right in a way I guess you can say that he could make anything that a blacksmith could make prior to 1711.

: John,
: Did JB work with or as a blacksmith or armourer or anything to do with the beating and bending of metal before 1711?

: Pete.
